The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Fresh Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG Ever

The speculation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The mystery has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.

Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words suggests that the team might be designing a real-time experience rather than another turn-based title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it pioneered the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, branching plots, and complex character building—qualities that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve if you're playing as a distinct build with a specific history of choices.

The series is also notoriously permissive, enabling players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be completed in a variety of manners, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, players can anticipate more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
