It's difficult for Australia to break new ground.

The top summits have long been mastered.

We're talking about the team that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, plus six more T20 titles, and earlier maintained nearly four years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, targeted by the peak baggers, are the only things left for a side that has won it all.

The fact it required until Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to complete their first ODI chase above 300, reclaiming their record for the largest in the female 50-over format, is, in truth, a tribute to the bowlers that have worn canary yellow over the past 50 years.

It is hard for their batsmen to maintain a record if not afforded the opportunity.

In the end, the outcome of Australia conceding 330 was skipper Alyssa Healy getting a chance to create her newest gem.

Originally famous as the teenage relative of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after her nation didn't secure either of the T20 or ODI World Cups conducted earlier and has seen it all through 15 championship-filled years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup arrived three months after her debut and seven global championships have come from 10 attempts across formats.

The gritty keeper was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India briefly halted the run of success.

That loss "pushed us to reevaluate our levels," Healy commented earlier.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the championship match and was declared player of the series. She ensured her country would not fail again.

Whether this newest brilliant performance topped that previous effort can be debated.

Certain people claim the argument supporting the pressure of a final. Others can counter with the difficulty that comes when confronting a historic chase and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What is certain is this century was much more difficult to anticipate.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 came as she led the batting statistics, but this knock followed six innings in India over the past few weeks in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've observed me in training, it's been a disappointing period because it appeared my form was missing whatsoever," stated Healy.

"But once you take the field, your fighting spirit kick in and you just lock into the contest."

Healy's competitiveness has consistently been her great strength - and an irreplaceable characteristic in replacing legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, out to the young fast bowler in every game, but this time it merely gave Healy's motivation.

One run resulted off Gaud's first delivery and from there Healy was underway.

"An opportunity to play and engage in competition with her and just have a bit of fun in that aspect, somewhat inspired me," stated Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 balls - her swiftest at the global tournament - and her century in 84 balls as she punished short deliveries, scoring 21 fours and three big hits.

By the time she was out the team needed 66 additional runs at run per delivery - an unconquered height now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"To chase 330 is new territory so I am glad we have the assurance to do that now," stated Healy further.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it another time but, should it happen, we are confident we can achieve it."

That comment will be the final thing rival teams at this championship want to hear.

Over the past five days a sense they will win from any position has grown stronger - this triumph succeeding victory over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite being 76-7 at one stage.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a meeting with traditional opponents England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final berth may likely be confirmed.

It was at that stage they left the previous year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a game Healy missed because of damaged tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the initial instance at a major tournament.

So great is her will, she later said she wanted to have participated through the pain.

Yet even as she later admitted those physical issues have pushed back thoughts of retirement, this championship is likely to be her concluding event as leader in 50-over cricket and she is still to achieve an international tournament as captain.

Triumph in India would lead her to the peak of her last major obstacle.
